Getting started

What is Phaeto?

Phaeto is a resume-tailoring tool that also shows you warm introductions into the companies you're targeting. It runs on iPhone and in a web browser. One account, same data on both.

How is Phaeto different from other AI resume tools?

Most tools stop at tailoring. Phaeto does three things together:

  • Tailor — multi-variant rewrites for different reader types (ATS, Recruiter, Technical, Executive) across three fidelity modes.
  • Fit Score— a deterministic local score, not a black-box LLM number. You can see exactly what it's measuring.
  • Insider Access — matches the connections you already have (iPhone contacts, calendar metadata, LinkedIn exports, message history) to the companies on your target list.

Can I use Phaeto on my phone and my laptop?

Yes. Sign in with Apple on both. History, saved resumes, target companies, and imported contacts stay in sync across devices. Subscriptions are sold through the iOS App Store; your iOS subscription unlocks the same plan on web automatically when you sign in with the same Apple ID.

Do I need an iPhone to use Phaeto?

Not strictly — the web app at phaeto.com works on its own with Sign in with Apple. But the iPhone app unlocks the strongest warm-signal sources (iPhone Contacts and Calendar), and it's where paid subscriptions are sold today.

Resume tailoring

What’s a "variant"?

A variant is the lens Phaeto rewrites your resume through. Four reader types — ATS, Recruiter, Technical, Executive — combined with three fidelity modes (Conservative, Balanced, Aggressive). For one job posting you might tailor an ATS-Conservative version for the online application and a Recruiter-Aggressive version to send to an internal contact. Same source resume, different optimizations.

What does fidelity mean?

How far from your source resume Phaeto is willing to push:

  • Conservative— only reorders, trims, and rewords. Won't add claims you didn't make.
  • Balanced— will reframe accomplishments to match the role's language, including quantification when it's reasonable to infer.
  • Aggressive — will surface adjacent skills and push framing toward the posting. Best to review carefully.

In every mode the LLM can only work from what your source resume actually says.

What does Apply Fixes do?

After Phaeto computes your Fit Score, the gap between your current score and a stronger one is broken into individual suggestions — “add ‘Python’ to your summary,” “move the data-pipeline bullet above the consulting section,” “trim the 2014 internship.” Each one is a single tap. You see the new score before you commit. You can apply some, none, or all.

Will recruiters detect AI-written resumes?

They might. The further you push fidelity, the more the rewrite sounds like a model and less like you. Conservative + a quick human pass on the output is the safest combination if you're worried about it. Phaeto's job is to surface the strongest phrasing for the role; making it sound like you is yours.

Can I import an existing resume?

Yes — paste plain text, or upload a PDF or DOCX file (web has both). Phaeto parses it into structured sections so the tailoring can target specific parts of the resume rather than blob-rewriting the whole thing.

What formats can I export?

PDF on every tier. DOCX on Lite, Premier, and Max (web today; iOS roadmap). Plain text always available via copy.

Fit Score

Is my Fit Score the same as ChatGPT giving me a score?

No. Phaeto's Fit Score is computed by deterministic rules on your device or our server — same input, same number, every time. It measures keyword overlap, section alignment, role signal, and noise. The LLM only rewrites; the score is judged by code you can reason about.

What does each component of the Fit Score actually measure?

  • Keyword coverage — how many job-description terms your resume actually hits, weighted by salience and position.
  • Section alignment — does the top half of your resume answer what the role is actually for, vs. burying the relevant experience.
  • Role signal— seniority, scope, and domain-specific verbs (“led,” “owned,” “shipped,” etc.) matched against the posting.
  • Noise — boilerplate phrasing the recruiter has seen 400 times this week. High noise drops your score.

What’s a "good" Fit Score?

70+ usually means the resume is genuinely on-target for the role. 85+ is rare and means you're reading like a near-perfect candidate. Below 50 means the resume isn't answering the posting and tailoring will help a lot. The number is more useful as a delta (before / after) than as an absolute.

Insider Access & warm connections

What does Phaeto read from my contacts, calendar, or messages?

Only if you turn on Insider Access, and only what's needed to surface warm introductions:

  • iPhone Contacts (iOS) — read-only. Phaeto has no code path that writes to your iPhone address book. If you enable matching, Phaeto also copies the fields it needs (name, email, phone, company, title) into our cloud database so the matches work on the web too. You can delete the cloud copy at any time — your iPhone address book is never touched.
  • iPhone Calendar (iOS)— Phaeto reads only event dates and the email domains of attendees and organizers. It does not read event titles, notes, locations, attachments, or attendee names. Only the aggregated per-domain signal (for example, “5 meetings with people at acme.com, most recent April 2”) is stored.
  • LinkedIn messages.csv — aggregates only. Phaeto counts messages per counterpart and reads the first and last timestamps. It does not read message content, subject lines, or attachments.
  • CSV exports you upload (like LinkedIn Connections) — parsed rows are stored linked to your account so the same imports work across your devices. You can delete any import scope at any time.

Full detail in the Privacy Policy.

Why doesn’t Phaeto use my call history?

Because iOS doesn't expose call history to third-party apps — at all. Apple's platform doesn't provide an entitlement, an API, or a workaround to read past calls. Phaeto literally cannot see them on iPhone, no matter what permissions you grant.

The closest behavioral proxies Phaeto can read on iOS are:

  • Whether a person's phone number is saved in your iPhone Contacts (a strong proxy — you don't bother saving strangers' numbers).
  • Calendar meeting recency and frequency by company domain.
  • LinkedIn message-exchange recency and count.

If we ever ship an Android version, Android does grant theREAD_CALL_LOG permission and we could surface call history there. On iPhone, we lean on the proxies above.

What counts as a "warm" connection?

Anyone Phaeto can find evidence of a real-world relationship with. That ranges from “they're saved in your iPhone Contacts with a phone number” (strongest direct signal) to “you had three calendar meetings with people at this company in the last six months” (strongest behavioral signal). The card shows the evidence, not just a vibe.

How do I import LinkedIn Connections?

In LinkedIn: Settings & Privacy › Data Privacy › Get a copy of your data › pick “Connections” › Request archive. LinkedIn emails you a ZIP within a few minutes; inside is Connections.csv.

In Phaeto: Insider Access › Add network › upload the CSV. Phaeto matches connections to the companies on your target list and stores them for cross-device access.

How do I import LinkedIn messages?

Same LinkedIn data archive — pick “Messages” in the archive request. The export contains messages.csv. Phaeto reads only the count of messages per counterpart and the first and last timestamps. Message content stays in the file on your device; Phaeto never uploads or stores it.

What if a contact works at multiple companies on my target list?

Phaeto shows them on each company they match. If one source says they're at Acme and another source says PACE, Phaeto merges the two records into a single person card so you see all evidence (emails, phones, meetings, messages) in one place rather than two half-cards.

Can Phaeto reach out for me?

No — Phaeto does not send messages on your behalf. The card shows you who, why they're warm, and the channels available; the outreach itself is yours to make.

Target Companies (beta)

What is Target Companies?

A short list of companies you're actively targeting (capped at 25). Phaeto runs warm-signal matching against each of them continuously, so the moment you add a company you can see who you already know there. Each company tile shows open roles, your warmest contact, and the match strength.

Why is it labeled (beta)?

The matching, deduplication, and job-count fetch logic still has rough edges in real-world data. We mark it beta so expectations stay calibrated. The feature is fully usable today; we just don't want anyone treating it as a polished, finished product yet.

Why is Target Companies capped at 25?

To keep matching fast and signals high-quality. A target list of 100 companies isn't a target list — it's a wishlist. Twenty-five companies is enough to run a real, active job search.

Privacy & data

Where does my data live?

Your account, resumes, tailored outputs, saved resumes, target companies, and imported contacts are stored in Supabase, linked to your Apple sign-in. Tailoring requests are sent to the AI provider you've chosen (OpenAI or Anthropic) at request time. We don't sell your data or use it to train models. See the Privacy Policy for detail.

Does Phaeto train AI models on my resume?

No. Phaeto never uses your content to train models. Tailoring requests are sent to OpenAI or Anthropic at request time and governed by those providers' own retention policies. With BYOK, your requests go through your own provider account under your own terms.

Does Phaeto sell my data?

No. We don't sell personal data and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. The full list of third-party services we use (Apple, Supabase, Vercel, OpenAI, Anthropic) is in the Privacy Policy.

How do I revoke iPhone Contacts or Calendar access?

iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Contacts (or Calendars) › toggle Phaeto off. The next time you open Phaeto, Insider Access will be paused for that source. Existing cloud-stored matches you'd previously enabled remain until you delete them in-app from the Insider Access manage screen.

What happens to my contacts if I cancel my subscription?

Imported contacts and warm-signal data stay in your account at their existing tier (Free or downgrade target). They're only removed when you delete them in-app or delete your account. A cancellation by itself never deletes data.

Pricing & billing

How much does Phaeto cost?

Four tiers, sold through the iOS App Store:

  • Free — 5 tailoring runs per month, all fidelity modes, PDF export.
  • Lite — $14.99/mo or $161.99/yr — 50 runs, Fit Score, History (25), Saved Resumes (20), DOCX export.
  • Premier — $24.99/mo or $269.99/yr — 250 runs, Insider Access, Target Companies (beta, 25 tracked), History (100), Saved Resumes (150).
  • Max — $99.99/mo or $999.99/yr — 1,000 runs, Insider Access, Target Companies (beta), History (100), Saved Resumes (150), priority support.

BYOK is available on every tier and bypasses run limits — your AI provider bills you directly for usage.

How do I cancel?

iPhone Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Phaeto › Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; tier benefits stay active until then.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Use reportaproblem.apple.com and select the Phaeto charge. Phaeto cannot reverse Apple-billed transactions directly.

What does BYOK mean?

Bring Your Own Key. You can paste your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key into Phaeto's Settings. When BYOK is on, tailoring uses your key, not ours, and your monthly run limit no longer applies. Any provider usage cost is billed by the provider to your account, not by Phaeto.

Account & support

How do I delete my account?

Email support@phaeto.com from the address associated with your Apple sign-in. Your record and associated data are removed from primary systems within 30 days; backup copies are purged on the standard rotation. You can also revoke Phaeto's Apple sign-in access at any time from your Apple ID settings.

How do I get support?

Email support@phaeto.com. Include a short description of what happened and, if you're on iOS, the build number from Settings › Support & Legal › Version (tap to copy).

I deleted my Apple ID — what happens to my Phaeto account?

Your Phaeto account is keyed to your Apple sign-in identifier, so deleting the Apple ID effectively orphans the Phaeto account. Email support@phaeto.com from any address and we can clean up the residual record on request.
